Nepalese carving of the Buddha shows the Buddha meditating. The curled patterns on top of the Buddha’s head are stylized sails. When the Buddha was seeking enlightenment he sat unmoving under a small tree. The animals wanted to help him. The snails protected the Buddha from the hot India’s sun by covering the Buddha’s head. The mask measures about 18″ long, 8″ wide and about 6″ deep.
